Interviews conducted with William Phillips of Elkhart, Indiana, who grew up in the black community of Elkhart during the early days of its existence. The interviews were conducted in the winter of 2012 by Goshen College history professor Jan Bender Shetler and her student assistant David Harnish as part of a partnership with the Elkhart County Historical Museum.
